Summary information relating to the hire of Gildings barns

We fully appreciate just how important it is for your wedding day to be wonderful in every respect, relaxed, romantic, and with every moment savoured by yourself and all your guests. We believe Gildings Barns provide the perfect setting for your vital day and we are committed to doing our utmost to help ensure everything will be perfect. This includes providing advice and guidance when you want it, prompt responses to queries in the lead up to your day, and making it easy for you to come along as many times as you like in advance for planning purposes.

Venue layout
There are three main structures at Gildings; the Gildings Barn, the Threshing Barn, and the Side Barn. These beautiful oak-framed structures reveal themselves in intriguing stages, eventually leading out to the expansive lawn, the Granary, and adjoining open farmland. For your ceremony and wedding breakfast, the maximum number of people that can be seated in the main barn is 110. In the evening feel free to invite up to an additional 20; the maximum capacity being 130.

Setting up
You can decorate Gildings entirely to suit your taste, and organise your event as you wish. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space, providing lots of scope for fun and creativity. There are no restrictions other than those to protect yourselves, your guests, and the property.

For events held on weekdays, including a Friday, you are usually able to have the whole of the previous day to set up. For Saturday events you will be able to have access from 8am (or often earlier if need be) on the day of your event, or occasionally on the previous day. In all instances you may have as many planning visits to the barns as you wish. This might be to practice setting up, or practice speeches, etc.

We work with very carefully selected local catering partners. Between them they provide a wide range of excellent cuisine to suit a wide range of budgets. As well as delivering fabulous catering, they will work closely with you to understand how you want to organise your day, and will have an 'Events Manager' appointed within their team to ensure everything runs smoothly. We expect them to be highly attentive to your needs, both on the day and in the lead up to your event. You may either buy your own alcohol and give it away, or use our approved licensed pay bar provider, or a combination of both. If you opt for a pay bar you will need a 'Temporary Events License', but please note there is only a fixed number of these available each year. We do not charge corkage if you choose to bring in your own alcohol.

You are welcome to hire in your own entertainment, and a stage is provided for bands etc, to perform from. If you need any recommendations, click here for recommended musicians and agencies on the 'Local Services' page. Out of consideration to neighbours and the rural environment, music must end at 11pm.

Vehicles may be left on site overnight on the day of the event at the owner's risk. Please arrange for them to be removed by 10am on the day after the event, or possibly later by arrangement only.

You are welcome to use sparklers outside where it is safe to do so, (but not fireworks or Chinese lanterns please as Gildings is in a rural area with farm animals close by).

This venue is run with due regard to, and respect for, the local rural environment. As such, appropriate management policies are operated, reflecting our commitment to minimising any environmental impact.

Due to the remoteness of the location, guests at Gildings needing taxis at the end of an event are strongly advised to book in advance. We have had several instances of people being stranded until the early hours. Our 'Local Services' page lists a number of local taxi firms familiar with the venue. Please ensure accurate directions are given to taxi firms as drivers often overshoot and travel further up the road.

Hire charges (VAT to be added):
- June to August, all Saturdays, and Sundays on bank holiday weekends: £3,600
- May and September, all Saturdays, and Sundays on bank holiday weekends: £3,500
- June to August, Fridays: £3,250
- May and September, Fridays: £3,150
- Any date between 1st and 22nd December: £3,900 (subject to a maximum of 4 bookings in the month)
- 31st December: £5,000
- All other dates, including mid-summer weekdays (Monday to Thursday): £3,000

Please note that we do not normally take bookings during the months of November, January and February, but we remain open for viewings. (Newdigate and Charlwood residents and charitable organisations should nevertheless contact us regarding possible events in these months)

50% of the hire fee is required to secure a booking, and the balance must be paid at least 12 weeks before your date of hire. All payments are non-refundable. A security bond of £500 is also required at the time of your second payment, returned promptly after your event subject to our terms and conditions being met.
